Challenge: Support with an internal staff dispute. The HR Manager, Vikki Allam, contacted HRS4U to provided independent advice regarding a dispute between an employee and line manager. How we solved it: We re-interviewed both members of staff and worked through a logical process in conjunction with DPAS’ HR staff to get to the root of the problem. When the cause was established the conflict was resolved quickly with no need for appeal or tribunal. As a result of this work it became clear the company needed to review staff contracts. We were asked to undertake a full review. Vikki also recognised that line managers were not sufficiently engaged in the current performance monitoring and appraisal scheme. We introduced a new scheme and provided training for all the management team, ensuring that all staff could see the benefits of the new approach. It was also identified that new staff handbooks were required. We re-designed the handbook to include all the relevant policies and procedures, and alongside the new contracts of employment. As a result of this work, DPAS elected to apply for Investors in People status. We worked with the management team to develop the skills needed to achieve the award. The results: DPAS gained Investors in People status. They have also undertaken psychometric testing to ensure new staff are a good cultural fit. They are now using their HR function as a core part of shaping and driving the business forward.
